    Max-Planck PostdocNet

The PostdocNet is a network representing postdoctoral researchers (postdocs) across the Max Planck Society. The network was founded in April 2019 by postdocs working in the society in order to improve the working conditions and career prospects of postdocs.

PostdocNet is organized and run by members of the community. Throughout the network, postdocs at each individual Max Planck institute elect a single representative (“external representative"), who acts as the point of contact between postdocs at their institute and the PostdocNet Steering Group. The Steering Group, elected each year at our general meeting by the external representatives, is in turn responsible for communicating directly with the Max Planck general administration, and for communicating information and progress back to the external representatives. The network also consists of several working groups, each focusing on a particular topic area of interest, including equality and diversity, communications, and survey development.

I believe in the power of big scale cooperation of employees, and have always taken part in representing my colleagues in the institutions I have been a member of in my short career. I think that a strong representative body ultimately serves both the interests of us young researchers, and those of our employers. Scientific research is one of the main driving forces for our future societies, and only by making sure that our day-to-day material, psychological and emotional working conditions are optimal will our research capabilities fulfil their potential.

    Yoav Beirach

Yoav Beirach (Spokesperson) is a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin. He is part of the Research Group “Experience in the Premodern Sciences of Soul and Body,” specializing in early modern European history of science and philosophy.

I found my calling as the Deputy Spokesperson out of a relentless dedication to the advancement of scientific research, coupled with a commitment to fostering collaboration and inclusivity within the Max Planck Society (MPG). In my role, I tirelessly strive to boost the visibility of Postdoc Net and construct meaningful avenues for professional growth. This position allows me to contribute significantly to the scientific community and ensure opportunities are equitable and widespread.

    Uma Lakshmi Dakshinamoorthy

Uma Lakshmi Dakshinamoorthy (Deputy Spokesperson) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences (MPI NAT) in Göttingen, where she investigates the mechanistic biochemistry of large protein complexes.
