Identifying the physical principles that govern life remains one of the most significant scientific challenges of our time. At the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life (PoL), scientists combine physics, biology, and computational sciences to explore the dynamic organization of living matter.
Research at PoL focuses on fundamental questions in cell and developmental biology for which physics insights can lead to conceptual breakthroughs. Through experiments, theory, and simulations, scientists connect physics principles to living systems at molecular, cell, and tissue scales.
In a unique environment where international and interdisciplinary scientists work together, PoL strives towards one goal: to understand what brings matter to life. Funded by the DFG since 2019, PoL is a cooperation between scientists at Technische Universität Dresden and several research institutions in the DRESDEN-concept network including the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS).
