“Mathematics Münster: Dynamics – Geometry – Structure” brings together mathematicians from a wide range of mathematical disciplines. Since January 2019, Mathematics Münster has been funded as a Cluster of Excellence. The mathematical research carried out at the Cluster Mathematics Münster is regarded as a cohesive whole, with numerous connections between different mathematical disciplines. The development of mathematical methods that result in interdisciplinary scientific discoveries is a specific area of focus. This represents a distinctive approach that engenders substantial stimuli for innovation, extending beyond the field of mathematics.
Guided by the three unifying principles Dynamics – Geometry – Structure, the around 200 mathematicians at the Cluster thoroughly analyse how mathematical objects dynamically evolve, consistently adopt a geometric perspective, and identify deeper, often hidden structures behind specific problems. The focus is on ten research topics, each spanning multiple mathematical fields and uniting many researchers: K-groups and cohomology; moduli spaces in arithmetic and geometry; models and universes; groups and actions; curvature, shape and global analysis; singularities and PDEs; field theory and randomness; random discrete structures and their limits; multiscale processes and effective behaviour; and deep learning and surrogate methods.
