Ruhr Explores Solvation – Understanding and Design of Solvent Controlled Processes (RESOLV)

The Cluster of Excellence RESOLV is an interdisciplinary research project of Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University, as well as four participating institutions: the University of Duisburg–Essen and the three Max-Planck Institutes for Coal Research, Chemical Energy Conversion, and Sustainable Materials in the German Ruhr Area. Since 2012, about 200 scientists have cooperated to clarify how the solvent is involved in the control, mediation, and regulation of chemical reactions. Exploiting the transformative power of Solvation Science is key to addressing urgent scientific and societal challenges, such as transitioning from fossil to sustainable carbon and energy sources for chemical feedstock production.
Their members are involved in a broad range of research areas – from fundamental studies in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry to advanced work in biochemistry, electrochemistry, industrial applications, and theoretical methods.
