Complexity, Topology and Dynamics in Quantum Matter (ctd.qmat)

The Cluster of Excellence ctd.qmat – Complexity, Topology and Dynamics in Quantum Matter – is one of the world’s leading consortia in quantum materials. Established in 2019, it unites Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg (JMU), Dresden University of Technology (TUD), the Max-Planck-Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS), the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids (MPI-CPfS), and the Leibnitz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW). Together, they explore and develop novel quantum materials with tailored properties. With over 300 researchers from more than 30 countries working across experimental and theoretical approaches, ctd.qmat ranks among the global leaders in quantum materials research.
In 2026, ctd.qmat secured its second funding period under Germany’s Excellence Strategy, expanding its focus into quantum dynamics, addressing topological phases and non-equilibrium phenomena. The cluster provides Early Career Researchers (ECR) with an inspiring environment for cutting-edge research and career development.
