Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction (CARE)

The Cluster of Excellence CARE started on January 1, 2026 at TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen, in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) and UNU-FLORES, Dresden.
The Cluster of Excellence CARE aims to fundamentally transform key areas of the construction industry through the development and integration of innovative materials, pioneering design approaches and advanced manufacturing technologies.
The focus is on the application of digital technologies and the establishment of sustainable framework conditions in order to develop scalable, cost-efficient and climate-resilient construction concepts. These should be adaptable and usable worldwide in order to meet the global requirements for an environmentally friendly and efficient construction industry.
The Research Areas (RAs) within CARE serve as repositories of essential methodologies and theoretical principles, bringing together expertise from various disciplines. They encompass the three key aspects of construction: Building Materials (RA1), Structural Design (RA2), and Manufacturing Technologies (RA4). Additionally, two cross-sectional areas will facilitate the envisaged breakthroughs towards CARE’s objectives: Digital Methodologies (RA4), Integrated Sustainability Frameworks (RA5).

(Planned) Support Activities for Postdocs

Support activities for postdocs within the cluster are currently under development and will be added at a later stage.

Recruiting

A Cluster job portal is currently being developed. Open positions are advertised via the job portals of TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen.
