Power Abuse in Academia: Responses and Prevention

March 26 @ 13:00 14:00

Power abuse remains a critical challenge in German academia, where steep power imbalances, limited transparency, and a lack of accountability can foster unethical behaviors such as bullying, exploitation, and fraud. Only more recently is the significant damage acknowledged that is often caused by it. This lunch talk, part of our series on Improving Research Culture, will explore how these structural vulnerabilities impact academic environments and the personal experiences of those affected. Prof. Daniel Leising from TU Dresden will examine the factors that permit or promote misconduct, discuss emergency responses available to individuals facing these challenges, and highlight broader reforms needed to prevent future abuse.

Join us for this session to shed light on what is often treated as a taboo subject, share your perspectives, and continue to work with us on improving research culture in academia.
