Postdocs are an important part of the scientific community worldwide by providing their individual high qualifications to different stakeholders such as universities or research institutions. They do this often with short term contracts with insufficient long-term security and high flexibility across the globe. This leads to an under-representation in many traditional representations, such as works councils or committees at universities, while being exposed to different workplaces and cultures.

The Network of Postdoc Representations

• Offers a platform for the exchange and networking opportunities among postdoc representations of universities in Germany
• Discusses the needs and views of postdocs and ways to deal with common challenges of postdoc representation
• Strives to ensure that the postdoc community is better valued, understood and that their voice is heard in decision-making processes at the level of scientific institutions
• Advocates for the establishment of postdoc representations at universities and research institutions which currently lack such a representation

Our quarterly meetings facilitate networking among all participating postdoc representations, focus on an exchange of information regarding the work of postdoc representations, provide a safe and confidential space for members to raise and discuss concerns of the postdoc community and challenges of their institutional work, and aim to identify issues that might affect the postdoc experience and ways to reduce or remove barriers at the institutional level.
