The Cluster for Nucleic Acid Sciences and Technologies (NUCLEATE) is a new Cluster of Excellence and funded since 2026 through the Excellence Strategy of the German Research Foundation DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).
NUCLEATE is a joint research network of three Bavarian universities, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), the Technische Universität München (TUM), and the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) and involves partners such as the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) in Würzburg, Helmholtz Munich and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich.
NUCLEATE drives internationally recognized research in nucleic acid sciences and technologies across all dimensions. By combining expertise in RNA and DNA biology, gene regulation, structural and chemical biology, bioengineering, computation, as well as pharmacy and medicine, we bridge the gap between fundamental molecular research, and the development of novel nucleic-acid based therapies and technologies.
